Acrylic photo prints with extra flare

The demand

At Bigacrylic we always try to offer something special with our Acrylic photo prints. This entails keeping up with trends in our industry and responding to what our clients want.

Within the last few years we received calls from various designers and institutions which were looking for Acrylic photo prints that bled all the way to the edge of the acrylic and included a smooth shiny finish to the edges. We did offer this product, however there needed to be a 1″ border as to not disrupt the image when buffing it.  We tried various buffing heads but the sides of the image would chip or fade due to the buffing.

We could not find another company who printed directly onto acrylic who offered this kind of finishing. We tried to convince our clientèle who inquired about it ,that leaving a 1″ border was the way to go.  They thought otherwise and went in a different direction.   We still received phone calls from the same customers asking if we figured out this challenge.

We spent a few months on r and d and finally found a solution that would make the edges of the acrylic crystal clear and smooth.

The response

We spent a few months on r and d and finally found a solution that would make the edges of the acrylic crystal clear and smooth. It was a 5 figure investment but knew if would make  the world of difference and position us as innovators.

This machine would flatten out the surface of the acrylic and make the edges crystal clear. I had to see it to believe it.  I was totally blown away by the results. The image can be seen through the sides of the acrylic photo prints, giving it a translucent optical effect.

We are offering the SMOOTH EDGE treatment to all the float option acrylics in 3/16 and 1/4 thickness at no extra charge. The 1/8″ acrylic would be to thin to notice the optical effect.

It really is amazing how one extra finishing can change the look of the whole product. This will blow away photographers, decorators and everyday consumers when they receive their acrylic photo prints with the SMOOTH EDGE TREATMENT.
